Event Fire Safety

Sharp-Fire Specialist Fire Protection Services was formed in 1992 with the aim of providing realistic and cost effective solutions to the fire safety problems posed by large public events.

Over the Years we have provided modern, fully equipped and operational fire appliances, to our varied customers throughout the country. Competency is obviously a serious issue when providing an operational fire and rescue response service, this why our fire appliances are crewed by fully trained and experienced fire-fighters. Our staff are our most important asset and some have been with us for over ten year. We recognise our duty of care to both our staff and any other person on site, which is why we provide both in-house and external refresher training to all of our fire-fighters.

We provide a full information pack prior to the event, that includes copies of our Health and safety Policy, Environmental Policy, Operational and Work Activity Risk Assessments and Copies of our Employers, Public and Product Liability Insurance Certificates. The level of cover for our Employees Liability Insurance is ten million pounds, and five million pounds for our Public Liability, which covers operational response.

Through our long-term service, we have earned the reputation as being the 'Event Fire Cover Specialists'.

Our continued investment in the company means that we are able to provide a 'One Stop' Fire Safety and Response Service for your event. We do not just recommend the controls to counter the risk of fire, we can provide the services and products to cover them with onsite enforcement and response. As a Gas Safe registered company we can offer advice on Gas Safety, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Through our investment in water rescue training and equipment for our organisation we can also provide Water Safety Advice and Water Rescue Teams. This means that there is a single point of contact for Fire Safety and Response available pre-event, on site during the event and post event, to deal with Fire Safety and Response Issues.

Where site security is sensitive, for example at the 46664 Concert which honours Nelson Mandela at 90 at Hyde Park, only one Fire Safety contractor has to be accredited and issued with passes. This one contractor can manage all of your events Fire Safety requirements, which can include: Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Risk Assessment Enforcement, Emergency and Contingency Planning, Fire Extinguisher Hire, Fire Alarm Design, Installation and Hire, Portable Appliance Testing, Fire Safety Inspections and First response Fire and Rescue Cover.

Sharp-Fire Ltd also provided Fire Safety and Response Cover for Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday Charity Gala Dinner. The prestigious guests included current and former Heads of State from across the world and numerous A-List celebrities from Actors to Singers. Sharp-Fire Ltd personnel provided continual inspections and patrols throughout the evening to ensure the fire safety of the venue was maintained, leaving the guests to enjoy the celebrations.

With over fifteen years specialist experience in providing Fire safety to the Event Industry, we appreciate that safe operational response is always a major concern and Sharp-Fire places a great emphasis on working and operating safely. We have our own Health and Safety Advisor, who holds a National Examination Board for Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) National General Certificate, to ensure that all of our Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are kept up to date and regularly reviewed.

Preventing

Prior to the event our Fire Safety Advisors can carry out a fully detailed Fire Risk Assessment, that covers the Build, Event and Break phases.

Once a Fire Risk Assessment has been conducted a report will be compiled which recommends the areas that require on site inspections and the frequency of these inspections, along with any additional controls that may not already be in place, but are required to ensure the Fire Safety of your event.

We are available to audit and review existing Fire Risk Assessments and to assist with:

Business Continuity Planning
Contingency Planning
Emergency Evacuation Planning (including Exit Capacity calculations)
Local Authority Liaison (including providing representatives for Safety Advisory Groups)

Gas safety advice and inspections from a Gas Safe registered company, with engineers holding national accredited certification scheme qualifications in both natural and liquiefied petroleum gas (LPG), for further information regarding gas safety services for outdoor events, please visit the [gas safety page].

Protecting

Portable Fire Extinguisher Hire, Sales and Service

With over 400 portable fire extinguishers in our Hire Stock, we cannot only supply the quantity of extinguishers, but we can supply the signs, stands and train your staff in the selection and safe use of them. We can also distribute the extinguishers around the site, collect them in after the event and our Fire Extinguishing Trades Association trained engineers can refill them on site, as required.

Fire Alarm Design, Installation, Maintenance and Hire

From a hand operated rotary bell to a fully Automated Fire Detection System, our Fire Industry Association trained Engineers can Design, Install and Maintain the appropriate fire warning systems required to cover both temporary and permanent structures on site.

Fire Safety Training

We are able to offer training courses for your staff that range from fire extinguisher selection and use, to full Fire Marshall training, as well as providing bespoke training courses to meet the individual needs of your event.

Security Industry Association - Licensed Door Supervisors

The nature of work means that our staff are required to provide Fire Safety Inspections within Licensed Premises. Although there is no legal requirement for our Fire Safety Inspectors to be Security Industry Association Licensed, as part of our commitment to fulfilling our duty of care to our staff, our inspectors are SIA Licensed in-case they deal with issues of overcrowding and to provide them with the additional training in conflict management.

Responding

During the Build, Event and Break Phases of your event, we can provide First Response Fire and Rescue Cover, with the aim to minimise the damage caused by a fire/fire related emergency incident, in the absence of, or until the arrival of, the Local Authority Fire Service.

Cover can be arranged in either 12 or 24 hour periods, with standby being given during the day, evening or a combination of both. Our Fire Safety Advisors can tailor make a cover package to meet the individual needs of your event, ensuring that the crews and appliances are present when the risks are at their greatest.

We operate a diverse fleet of operational fire appliances, ranging from our light four-wheel drive pumps, to the full size domestic appliances, the Pump Rescue Ladders. We also operate an Incident Command Unit which has proven to be invaluable to our clients, further information and pictures of all of our fire appliances can be found on the Fleet Page.

First Response Fire and Rescue Cover is available as a single service, but is generally supplied as part of an Event Fire Safety Package, combined with the Fire Risk Assessment, Fire Safety Training and Fire Extinguisher and Alarm Hire.

This means that as well as responding to incidents the crews will be available to conduct Fire safety Inspections, as specified within the Fire Risk Assessment, to conduct Fire Safety Patrols and to test any Fire Alarm/Fire Warning Systems and record the findings.

All incidents and inspections are fully recorded, detailing times, delays, attendance and action taken. Copies of the incident, inspections and testing reports will be supplied to the event, along with an event report and reviewed Fire Risk Assessment, during the post event de-brief meeting.

Sharp-Fire is the first Independent Fire and Rescue service in the United Kingdom to operate a dedicated Swiftwater Rescue Team, with the necessary skills, knowledge, attitude, training, experience and equipment to undertake rescues from both swift and still water environments, including at Outdoor Events where a specific water risk has been identified, please visit the Water Rescue Team page for further information and pictures.
