The Fleet

At Sharp-Fire we operate a diverse fleet of Fire Appliances that can cover a wide range of event types, providing us with the capability of operating either on or off hard roads.

All of our vehicles are highly visible and fitted with the latest high visibility 'Batten-burg' conspicuancy markings. Each appliance is also fitted with the latest audible and visual warning devices, to ensure the safety of the members of the public is maintained when proceeding to incidents.

All vehicles are suitably equipped to enable our personnel to deal with a wide range of operational duties safely and efficiently, and both equipment and appliances are regularly serviced. In order for us to ensure that our vehicles are maintained to the same high standard as that of the Local Authority Fire and Rescue Services, all of our operational appliances are regularly inspected and serviced by West Midlands Fire Service Transport and Engineering Workshops, as part of a Preventative Maintenance Programme.

As an organisation Sharp-Fire is conscious of the Environment and the effect as a company that we have upon it. While modernising our fleet and equipment, we always aim to procure both vehicles and kit that is the most environmentally friendly.

Pump Rescue Ladders

The frontline appliances of our fleet are our Dennis Sabre Pump Rescue Ladders.

The Dennis Sabre is purpose-designed for enhanced crew efficiency and greater crew safety. Each of these appliances carries a minimum of 1800 litres of water and is fitted with a 4500 litre per minute engine driven pump, that is capable of producing four fire fighting jets and/or two high pressure hose reels.

To minimise the manual handling demands placed upon our fire-fighters the Pump Rescue Ladders are fitted with pneumatically powered hose reel winders and drop down ladder gantries, that remove the need for the crew to access the roof of the appliance and lower down equipment. The vehicles are fitted with full scene lighting and engine driven 110-volt generators and lighting equipment (including mast lights), to ensure that the incident ground is always suitably illuminated.

Each appliance carries 60 metres of high pressure hose reel, layflat hose, branches, hose ramps, foam making equipment, personal flotation devices, throw lines, rope lines, portable pump, Tirfor winches, shackles, webbing straps, Holmatro extrication equipment, chocks, blocks, wedges, forcible entry tools, Jafco Axes, Jafco modular hand tools, breathing apparatus (BA), environmental protection kits, full compliment of ladders, trauma care kits including oxygen, and casualty handling equipment.

Targeted Response Vehicle (TRV)

This vehicle has been purpose built and fitted with the latest state of the art, electric start, high pressure/CAFS pumping system. As part of our commitment to our Environmental Policy, this pump unit is designed to use less water and a biodegradable foam solution.

Supacat 6x6 All Terrain Fire-Fighter

Fighting fires that are well away from hard roads, or where there is narrow and restricted access, has always presented a problem.

The Supacat Fire-Fighter creates a 'first' for a high mobility on and off road vehicle, that delivers an effective fire-fighting capability. The vehicles ultra low ground pressure means that it can go practically almost anywhere and the low ground pressure also means that it causes minimal ground disruption in doing so, making it ideal for environmentally sensitive areas, such as heathlands or moorlands.

The fire-fighting equipment consists of a 1000 litre water tank, with an independently powered fire-fogging pump that feeds twin hose reels. The fire-fogging pump enables the maximum fire-fighting output to be given, using the least amount of water.

Incident Commanders Vehicle

This vehicle is used by our Incident Commander and carries Incident and Command packs, Dynamic Risk Assessments Charts and various other Command Support Equipment. Based on the new Freelander 2, the first 45000 miles of this vehicle are Co2 neutral, making it one of the most environmentally 4x4 vehicles currently on the road.
